Stolen Property and Property with Removed Serial Numbers NWMarketplace strictly forbids the sale of stolen property, which violates state, federal and international law. NWMarketplace strongly supports law enforcement efforts to recover stolen property that is listed on its Website, and urges the prosecution of those responsible for knowingly attempting to sell such items on NWMarketplace. NWMarketplace forbids its members from listing goods that have altered or removed serial numbers, as the possession and sale of such items is prohibited in a majority of states in the U.S. Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including: Stolen property and items with missing or altered serial numbers includes: Items taken from private individuals. Property taken without authorization from companies or governments. A television set with a completely removed serial number. A DVD player with some of the digits in its serial number altered.
U.S. federal law on selling stolen property or government property without authorization: Theft of Property: If an item on NWMarketplace is listed that believed to be stolen, the best course is to contact law enforcement immediately. Under NWMarketplace's privacy rules, NWMarketplace’s attorneys will provide important records about pending and past listings with an official request from law enforcement officials. NWMarketplace will ask that members inform the police officer handling the case that NWMarketplace will be pleased to cooperate in the investigation, and ask the officer to contact NWMarketplace. The officer should include all relevant information, including the case number and any item numbers or User IDs. Items with Missing or Altered Serial Numbers: Members should also direct any reports about items on NWMarketplace that they believe have missing or altered serial numbers to law enforcement so that an officer can investigate such listings using the process set out above. It is important that for law enforcement contacts us directly, as it enables us to respond quickly in case of emergencies. Emails directed to us informing us of such activity will be routed to abuse@nwmarketplace.com.
