Prescription
Drugs
Controlled drugs
that require a prescription from a licensed practitioner (such as a
doctor, dentist, ophthalmologist or optometrist) are not permitted on
NWMarketplace; this includes drugs prescribed by veterinarians for
animals.
Sellers may not list
medications that contain pseudoephedrine or ephedrine on
NWMarketplace. These medications now require a prescription from a
doctor in at least one state, and the sale of these products is
closely regulated by federal and state law.
Violations of this
policy may result in a range of actions, including:
Examples
of Prohibited Prescription Drugs:
All forms of
insulin (including non-prescription forms)
Prescription
allergy medicine such as Zyrtec.
Heart
worm medicines (such as Sentinel, Revolution, Heartgard and
Interceptor) for animals
Flea
control products (such as Program, Advantage and Top Spot) can be
bought and sold without a prescription, and therefore they may be
listed on NWMarketplace.
Members
should refer to the FDA's tips for purchasing drugs online to be
sure that they are not listing or bidding on prescription drugs or
items.
Further,
the Food and Drug Administration maintains the "Orange Book"
online where members can search prescription drugs and over the
counter medicines by brand name or by active ingredient. Think
safety and check with the FDA first.
The
Center for Veterinary Medicine maintains the "Green Book"
online where members can search for information about animal drug
products.
Please
view the FDA's About Me Page for more information. Additional
information may also be found in the FDA Orange
Book
and the FDA Green
Book.
